Toyota is all about giving their customers options, and they certainly do with the 2008 Tacoma. It comes available in three variations, including the Regular Cab, Access Cab and Double Cab. The Regular Cab has 4×2, PreRunner and 4×4 trims, while the Access Cab also offers the X-Runner trim. The Double Cab features the PreRunner as standard and the 4×4 trim as an option.

I had the pleasure of driving a 2008 4×4 Regular Cab. Under my hood, I had the power of a 2.7-liter DOHC EFI 4-cylinder engine, complete with VVT-i. At 5200 rpm, this monster-truck could get up to 159 hp. Along with its power, the aero-dynamic, convenient size and shape of this vehicle allowed me to have smooth and easy handling. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive comes standard, but a 6-speed manual is also an option. If you prefer automatic, the option for a 4 or 5-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission with intelligence is available. Double all of that with an average 4000 lb towing capacity, and you have yourself a miniature powerhouse.

Safety is also an important factor, and the 2008 Tacoma doesn’t disappoint here either. Driver and front passenger airbags with an advanced airbag system is standard, as well as a cutoff switch in case there is need for alleviation from the protective air sac. The Tacoma offers a Child Restraint System to help keep the younger passengers in the automobile safe and secure in their seating. In addition, the Tacoma offers a 4-wheel Anti-Lock Brake System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, as well as Brake Assist.

This swift truck model also offers excellent means to keep the contents stored in it’s back safe and secure. Various rail systems, cargo tie-downs and covers keep whatever you’re towing around attached to the vehicle. All of these don’t hurt if you decide to go do some off-road exploring in your handy little explorer either.
