Change Comes To Toyota

For the first time since 1995 an actual descendant of the Toyoda family takes reign over the mighty Toyota empire. Akio Toyoda, 52, was named head of the car company today.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda

Akio is the grandson of company founder Kiichiro Toyoda. But it may not be all smiles and celebration for long. Toyoda comes into power with Toyota Motor Company posting their first annual fiscal loss in 71 years. And let’s face it – new automobiles aren’t exactly flying off the dealership lots. Stock in Japan has dropped over 50% in the last year. Akio has his work cut out for him – and on a day where this nation welcomes change with a new President, Toyota’s Chief of Staff will have plenty to keep himself busy.
