Ode To A Rusty Toyota Pickup
Oh faithful and rusty old Toyota Pickup, how we love thee. With your fading paint job and weathered holes running across the top frame of your bed. The “OTA” across the trunk door has faded away, so your sign now ironically reads “TOY.” Only one headlight works, and your brake lights hardly ever come on, but we forgive you.

Because you start for us every time, in heat or extreme cold. Sure, it needs a good 15 minutes before leaving to warm up, but only because your 300,000 mile engine needs a bit extra care. Your clutch sticks and your accelerator forces itself back upon my ankle when going uphill. But fear not, because you will always make it over the bend and probably still live longer than that Mercedes that passed up doing 85 mph a few miles back.

Your rust is so widespread one would think you being parked on my lawn was a signal for the trash man to take you away, But nay I say! This Toyota Pickup may have torn seating and a broken steering wheel, but its motor and transmission, radiator and catalytic converter are sound, even if the muffler is not. A Toyota Pickup is not a car, it’s a lifelong investment. So to you, trusty and reliable 25 year old Toyota Pickup, we salute you!
