Toyota Etios in Full Color Pictures!
Yesterday we told you about Toyota’s New Delhi Auto Show teaser, featuring the Etios Concept. Only 24 hours later and we already have a official photos of the Toyota release in India. Etios was even shown off in the same way Chevy’s Volt was in December, with a choreographed dance routine. Is nothing sacred?
Toyota has unveiled a new compact car concept for the Indian market. The Toyota Etios was introduced at the 10th Auto Expo in New Delhi, and will be manufactured by the end of the year.
Engineers designed both hatchback and sedan versions of the car, with the first using a 1.5-liter petrol engine, and the latter getting a 1.2-liter petrol unit. Performance and efficiency specs were not revealed for the two concepts.
The family car was built “with a spacious interior,” and “abundant storage space,” the company says. Trying to focus on market needs, Toyota employees spoke with people across the country to find out what they thought was most important in a car.
“I visited many Indian cities and homes to learn the market and to hear from the consumer directly,” said Yoshinori Noritake, chief engineer for the Etios project. Noritake went on to say that 2,000 engineers worked together over the four-year development of the Etios.
“I am convinced in my heart that the Etios offers joy of ownership and quality of life to consumers in India.”
Toyota’s subsidiary in India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private, Ltd, will begin production by the end of the year in a plant built exclusively for the vehicle. The company expects to sell 70,000 Toyota Etios units annually, both in India and abroad.
